MassDOT issues update on South Coast Rail construction and service disruptions
MassDOT has issued construction updates, service disruptions, and work taking place beginning May 10th.
Middleborough: 24-Hours/Day Work at New Middleborough Station Site
Location of work: •Work in railroad right-of-way at West Clark Street railroad crossing in Middleborough at the New Middleborough Station site (161 South Main Street) •Crews may also be working in the railroad layover yard
Dates/Hours of Work: Friday, May 13 to Monday, May 16, 24-hours/day
Middleborough/Lakeville Line Service Alert for May 14-15
On Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15, buses will replace train service between Middleborough and Bridgewater to allow for the above work.
Lakeville: 24-Hours/Day Work
Location of work: •Culvert work in railroad right-of-way south of Malbone Street in Lakeville •Crews will access the track at Malbone Street in Lakeville and Mill Street in Berkley
Dates/Hours of Work: Friday, May 13 to Tuesday, May 17, 24-hours/day
Berkley: 24-Hours/Day Work Padelford Street to Myricks Street, Mill Street Access
Location of work: •Work in railroad right-of-way between Padelford Street and Myricks Street in Berkley •Crews will access the track at Padelford Street, Myricks Street, and Mill Street in Berkley
Dates/Hours of Work: Friday, May 20 to Tuesday, May 24, 24-hours/day
Fall River: 24-Hours/Day Track Utility Work
Location of work: Track utility work in railroad right-of-way near the Fall River Country Club in Fall River
Dates/Hours of Work: Wednesday, May 18 to Sunday, May 22, 24-hours/day
Fall River: Detour for Work at Pearce Street
Location of work: Pearce Street, Fall River
Dates/Hours of Work: Road closure/detour of Pearce Street (at Dyer Street) continues Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Fencing Installation: Middleborough, Lakeville, Raynham, Taunton, Assonet, Fall River, Berkley, and New Bedford
Location of work: •Installation of fencing along the Middleborough Secondary Line railroad right-of-way at locations between Route 140 in Taunton and the new Middleborough Station site (161 South Main Street, Middleborough) •Installation of fencing along the Fall River Secondary Line railroad right-of-way at locations between Beechwood Road and the Weaver’s Cove Layover Facility site (2680 North Main Street) in Fall River •Installation of fencing along the New Bedford Main Line railroad right-of-way at locations between the East Taunton Station site (1141 County Street) in Taunton and the New Bedford Station Site (Acushnet Avenue at Whale’s Tooth Parking Lot) in New Bedford

Berkley: Railroad Access at Cotley Street
Location of work: Cotley Street in Berkley
Dates/Hours of Work: Please note that the contractor will be using Cotley Street to access the right-of-way for various work activities. This access will be primarily used during the daytime (7:00 AM-7:00 PM) but will also be used 24-hours/day during some activities.
Berkley: Railroad Work at Myricks Street
Location of work: Myricks Street in Berkley
Dates/Hours of Work: •Typicall, Monday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM •Friday, May 20 to Tuesday, May 24, 24-hours/dayy (see 24-hours/day work above)
Note that although regular daytime construction hours begin at 7:00 AM, abutters may notice crews arriving at the construction sites prior to this time.
Currently, activity in the area includes conduit work, drainage work, and grubbing and roadbed prep work for the spring.
Middleborough: CSX Rail Yard Work
Please be advised that as part of the South Coast Rail Project, Mass Coastal Railroad will be making improvements to the CSX Rail Yard at Station Street in Middleborough. Generally, crews will be working Monday through Friday during daytime hours.
Daytime Work on Middleborough Secondary and New Bedford Main Line

Overnight and Daytime Transportation of Soils to Freetown and Weaver’s Cove Sites
Note that soils excavated from the railroad right-of-way during the above work are typically transported during the day and may be transported overnight by truck to the designated project sites in Freetown and Fall River where the soils will be stockpiled and spread.
