MassDOT announces work to widen Route 44 set to begin soon; project to finish in 2026

TAUNTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced it will be performing roadway reconstruction and related work on Route 44 (Dean Street) in Taunton. Work will occur during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. starting Monday May 15.

The work will consist of widening of Route 44 (Dean Street) to accommodate two travel lanes and buffered bicycle lanes in both directions, the reconstruction of sidewalk along Route 44, and the installation of new traffic signals at the intersection with Longmeadow Road and Gordon Owen Parkway. The work also includes reconstruction of the roadway drainage system, extension of an existing culvert, installation of traffic signing and pavement markings.

Work on the project is expected to continue until September 2026.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.  Traffic management will consist of standard temporary traffic control utilizing police details.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
