MassDOT announces improvements, lane closure, coming to Route 24

RAYNHAM/BROCKTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation Board of Directors today approved a contract with Aggregate Industries of NE Region, Inc., totaling approximately $15.3 million, for the rehabilitation of six bridge decks and resurfacing 12.2 miles of Route 24 and several adjoining on and off-ramps between Raynham and Brockton.

The project entails resurfacing due to the degradation of the existing pavement. According to MassDOT, the use of pavement preservation resurfacing will improve the pavement serviceability, condition, and roadway safety. Furthermore, resurfacing at most ramps will be included except at the Route 24/I-495 interchange. Superstructures of bridges have deteriorated and will also require routine maintenance work. Proposed work also includes adjusting or rebuilding of drainage structures as required; removing and resetting curb, edging, and curb inlets as required; application of pavement markings; installation of reflectorized pavement markers; and other related work.

Construction is expected to take approximately three years to complete. During this time, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. All work under this contract is expected to be conducted in overnight time periods, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless otherwise authorized by the engineer and with certain exceptions for holidays.
