A Massachusetts woman was sentenced to prison last week for her role in the death of 21-year-old Nicole Dondero.

In November of 2019, a preliminary investigation indicated that Caitlin Cleverly of Plymouth was traveling on Route 140 Northbound in a 2005 GMC Envoy when her vehicle collided with a 2013 Chrysler 200, which was turning left from Route 140 Southbound, across the northbound travel lanes, to enter the ramp for Route 24 Northbound.

Cleverly and her 35-year-old male passenger, also from Plymouth, were transported to Morton Hospital in Taunton for treatment of minor injuries. The operator of the Chrysler, a 22-year-old Acushnet man, was also transported to Morton Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His passenger, Dondero, of Lakeville, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Cleverly was reportedly speeding when she went through a red light.

According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Cleverly pled guilty to motor vehicle homicide due to negligent operation.

The District Attorney’s Office requested the maximum sentence of 2 1/2 years in jail and a 2-year statutory loss of license.

The defense requested 5 years of probation with home confinement for the first two years with exceptions for work and 300 hours of community service.

Judge MCmanus sentenced Cleverly to 2 years in jail, with one year to serve. The remaining year of the jail term was suspended for two years, with the first 90 days of probation to be home confinement. He also ordered the two-year statutory loss of license.

If Cleverly gets arrested during the two-year time span after she is released from jail, she is liable to serve the remaining year of the jail term.
