Massachusetts virus hospitalizations increase for just the 4th time in 29 days, 15 new reported deaths

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases and positive test rate in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 425 more positive cases announced today, an increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased slightly from 1.06% to 1.05%. Sunday’s 1.00% was the lowest since September 27th.

Massachusetts had seen 359 more positive cases announced yesterday which was the lowest since September.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 657,903 with 15 reported dead (14 confirmed, 1 probable) for a total of 17,794 (17,433 confirmed, 361 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 22,482,469 after 60,201 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths increased slightly from 7.9 to 8.0. Wednesday’s 5.4 rate was the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 700+ to 11,924. In the last 28 days, active cases have decreased by over 22,200.

Hospitalizations have increased in 92 of the last 191 days and saw an increase of 6 to raise the total to 332. Hospitalizations have decreased in 25 of the last 29 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Yesterday’s total of 326 active hospitalizations was the lowest since October 16th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the May 13th report, Fall River has a 19.7 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (21.4 last week). New Bedford, who has the highest rate in Bristol County, saw a decrease to 29.1 (was 32.0). Westport saw a decrease to 11.1 (was 19.2), Swansea is at 14.8, a decrease, and was 17.0 last week. Somerset saw an increase as they sit at 14.3 (was 13.9). Freetown stands at 9.5, a decrease from 16.6. Dartmouth is currently at 13.3, a decrease from last week’s 19.4. Acushnet increased to 24.6 (was 23.9). Berkley is at 10.5 and was 22.0 last week.

6 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is down from 13 last week. 26 were in the red the week before. Acushnet, Edgartown, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford, and Taunton.
