Massachusetts student virus cases hit another record this week with over 1,000 new infections

COVID-19 among Massachusetts schools saw a record amount of student cases for the 2nd week in a row along with some decreases and some increases in various area communities.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 1,095 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from April 8 to April 14. 184 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 1,279.

The last report, which was for April 1 to April 7, revealed that 1,045 tested positive. 821 of the positives were students and 157 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Fall River: 10 students and 2 staff
New Bedford: 14 students and 5 staff

Seekonk: 5 students
Somerset: 1 student
Swansea: 7 students
Taunton: 22 students and 2 staff
Westport: 2 staff
