Massachusetts State Troopers to pay tribute to Trooper killed in line of duty, here is how they are honoring her
Massachusetts State Troopers who were Academy classmates of Trooper Tamar Bucci tomorrow will embark on a bus journey to Washington, D.C., to be present, along with Tamar’s family, for national Police Week ceremonies that will recognize Trooper Bucci’s ultimate sacrifice.
According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, the classmates — young Troopers who graduated from the Academy as the 85th Recruit Training Troop — will hold a brief ceremony at 7 AM at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough before beginning their trip to the nation’s capital and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
Trooper Bucci, 34, was killed in the line of duty when her cruiser was struck by a gasoline tanker on Route 93 in Stoneham late on the night of March 3, 2022 as she was attempting to pull over to offer help to a stopped motorist.
As part of their actions to honor Trooper Bucci, and in recognition of Trooper Bucci’s commitment to serving others, her classmates will perform an “Act of Kindness” in every state that they drive through enroute to the Memorial, beginning in Massachusetts and concluding in Washington D.C.
The specific “Acts of Kindness” that they will perform were chosen to include all members of the community — from elementary school children to the elderly to the homeless community to shelter animals and more.
Their first “Act of Kindness” will be shown to healthcare workers at Mass General Brigham’s brand new Center for Sports Performance and Recovery in Foxborough, adjacent to the stadium and Patriot Place. Dr. Elizabeth Matzkin, co-leader of Women’s Sports Medicine for Mass General Brigham, will accept the “Act of Kindmess” on behalf of the healthcare workers.
Additionally, in recognition of Tamar’s physical toughness and dedication to fitness, her classmates will perform a set of burpees in every state they drive through, hence the name of their journey, “Burpees for Bucci.”
The MSP’s Pink Cruiser, which will also be making the trip to Washington, has been renumbered to Cruiser 4440 in Trooper Bucci’s honor. She wore Badge #4440.
On Monday, May 15, 2023, Trooper Bucci’s name will be added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, which honors all peace officers who gave full measure of sacrifice in performance of their duty.
