Massachusetts State Trooper involved in crash with serious injuries
A serious crash occurred overnight involving a Massachusetts State Police Trooper.
According to Dave Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police, shortly before midnight an MSP Trooper was responding to assist other officers when he was involved in a crash with another vehicle on Route 12 in Leominster. The female occupant, who was driving a Ford Focus, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to, and remains, at UMass Medical Center-Lakeside. The Trooper suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Leominster Hospital.
The Trooper was operating a gray low profile cruiser with emergency lights and siren activated at the time of the crash, according to Procopio.
At the time of the crash the Trooper was responding to assist other units who were pursuing a suspect vehicle. The cruiser involved in the crash was responding to the area where the pursuit was occurring to be in a position to assist if needed and was not involved in the pursuit.
The pursuit, which began at approximately 11:49 p.m., started on Route 290 westbound in Worcester and continued onto Route 190 northbound and Route 12 southbound. At approximately 12:14 p.m. the suspect vehicle stopped and the suspect was arrested on multiple charges.
The crash is under investigation.
