Massachusetts State Police, local police, investigating after 1 teen dead, 3 other teens injured in rollover crash

Four teens were injured, one fatally, after a rollover crash, authorities and school officials say.

According to Middleton Chief William Sampson, on Wednesday, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Middleton Police and Fire Departments were alerted by a cellphone’s automatic alert system, of a potential motor vehicle accident involving personal injuries on the unpaved section of North Liberty Road in Middleton.

Upon arrival, units located a pickup truck, which was off the road and upside down on its roof.

A total of four occupants were on-scene. An 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male juvenile, who were located inside the vehicle and two female occupants, a 17-year-old juvenile and an 18-year-old, were located standing outside the vehicle.

Fire personnel were able to extricate the two males from inside the vehicle and administered first aid to all those on-scene. All four were transported to area hospitals, where the 18-year-old male, tragically, succumbed to his injuries. The male juvenile remains in the hospital with serious injuries, while the two females were treated and released.

The identity of the teens involved in the accident were not released., however, according to Superintendent David DiBarri the deceased was a Malden resident and a senior at Northeast Metro Tech.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our students. We will have the necessary resources available for our community as they navigate this difficult time,” said Superintendent DiBarri. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the student. I encourage students and our own faculty and staff to use the resources available during this difficult time as emotions and grief come in all forms.”

The accident remains under investigation by the Middleton Police Department along with the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, in conjunction with the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
