The operator of the 2003 Jeep Liberty who died when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle on 05/10/2018 at about 2:10 a.m. on Route 195 in Swansea has been tentatively identified as John Souza, 38, of Cranston, R.I. Souza was known as local dj and funny man Johnie Armani.

Additionally, while it was previously reported that the 2012 Volkswagen Touareg crossed the median into the westbound lanes of Route 195, the exact route of travel, crossing the median or entering from an exit ramp, which resulted in that vehicle traveling eastbound on the westbound side of Route 195, remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Thursday morning at about 2:10 a.m., State Police from the Dartmouth Barracks responded to the two vehicle crash on Route 195 westbound in Swansea.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Joshua Pacheco initially indicated a 2012 Volkswagen Touareg was traveling eastbound on Route 195 when the operator, a 40-year-old female from Bristol, RI, lost control of her vehicle, crossed the median into the westbound travel lanes and struck a vehicle which was traveling westbound.  Souza’s 2003 Jeep Liberty, rolled over and became fully engulfed with the operator trapped inside.
