Massachusetts State Police investigating fatal high-speed crash on Route 495
The Massachusetts State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality early this morning on Route 495.
According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, the preliminary investigation by Troopers assigned to the State Police-Foxboro Barracks indicates that just after 4:00 a.m., a 2022 BMW X3 SUV, which was northbound in Mansfield at a high rate of speed, changed lanes. The driver and lone occupant, an adult male, lost control of the vehicle, which went off the road to the left. The BMW struck the guardrail and entered the center median. The driver was determined to be deceased on scene. His name is not being released at this time as notification of next-of-kin is ongoing.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The investigation into the crash is ongoing and is being conducted by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County.
The crash necessitated the closure of the left lanes on both the northbound and southbound sides of the highway. The guardrail at the crash site was replaced. All lanes were reopened at 10:30 a.m.
