Massachusetts man accused of throwing hungry dog in poor condition several times

A Massachusetts man has been arrested after a witness was sickened after what they say the man did to a dog in his possession.

According to Holyoke Police, just after 6:00p.m. on Sunday, Holyoke Police Officers responded to the area of High Street and Jackson Street for the report of 2 Hispanic men abusing a dog.

Officers arrived in the area and encountered a man, later identified as 31-year-old Douglas Robles. Officers initiated a conversation with Robles and took note of the poor condition of the dog he had on a leash.

A witness stated that they observed a large Hispanic male hit a brown dog several times. That same man proceeded to throw the dog on the ground and drag it around by its collar. The same man proceeded to pick the dog up and throw it onto the sidewalk by it collar. The dog appeared injured as it had difficulty getting back onto its feet. The witness stated Robles did this multiple times in the matter of minutes while the witness stood by waiting for the light to change. The witness stated to dispatch they were extremely disturbed by what they saw and were sickened that someone could do that to an animal.

Robles was placed under arrest and the dog was placed in the care of Thomas J O’Connor Animal Shelter.

As the Holyoke Police Officers waited for the shelter to respond, Officers purchased 3 cans of dog food and fed the dog. The abused dog ate 2 cans of food immediately.

Robles was charged with Animal Cruelty.

  1. Can we starve this guy and kick him, throw him in the ground a couple of times.?????? You can be a tough guy and do it to an innocent animal! Why get a dog if you are going to abuse it! There obviously is no love for animals at all so why do you get one???? I feel bad for this Poor baby I hope the pup finds the love he deserves. 🥺 I hope the guy gets what he deserves!
