A young child is fighting for her life after an early morning crash in Massachusetts.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, Troopers, the Andover Fire Department, and EMS crews early this morning responded to a single-vehicle crash in Andover that resulted in life-threatening injuries to a one-year-old girl. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that at just before 3:45 a.m., a 2017 Toyota Camry with a New Hampshire registration was northbound on Route 495 in Andover when the operator lost control of the vehicle. The Camry went into the grass median, continuing in a northerly direction, then descended an embankment and struck a tree.

The infant was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. From there she was transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital. The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was transported to Lawrence General Hospital with minor injuries. The woman and infant are both from Nashua, N.H.

Troopers are investigating distraction on the part of the operator as a potential cause of the crash. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the State Police-Andover Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
