Massachusetts State Police identify motorcycle rider killed in two-vehicle crash on Route 128 ramp

A motorcycle rider has been killed after a serious crash.

According to Massachusetts State Police, yesterday at approximately 3:45 p.m. Troopers assigned to State Police Weston responded to reports of a head-on crash involving a motorcycle and box truck on the ramps from Route 128 to Route 90 in Newton. Weston Fire/EMS also responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was operating on the ramp from Route 90 to Route 128 northbound and the box truck was traveling on the ramp from Route 128 northbound to Route 90. As the vehicles were approaching each other, in opposite directions, the operator of the motorcycle lost control of his vehicle and crossed over the median into the oncoming lane, striking the box truck head-on. The operator of the motorcycle, identified as Ben Vinson, 46, of Billerica, was seriously injured and succumbed to those injuries shortly after the crash. The operator of the box truck, a 54-year-old man from Framingham, was not injured in the crash. The off ramps in both directions were closed for an extended duration to facilitate crash investigation and cleanup.

The crash remains under investigation by Troopers assigned to State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services, Troop H Detectives Office, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and Troopers assigned to State Police Weston. No further information is available at this time.
