Massachusetts State Police: Hydroplaning possibly leads to crash that kills one, injures others
According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, at just after 7:15 p.m. Sunday night, State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on I-93 southbound in Wilmington that resulted in the death of a passenger in one of the vehicles.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2008 Honda Civic sedan and a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado pickup were southbound in the area of Exit 33 (Concord Street). Evidence indicates that the Honda hydroplaned, exited the roadway into the median, struck the median guardrail barrier, then reentered the roadway and traveled across all lanes where it collided with the pickup, which was traveling in the right lane.
The front right passenger of the Honda, a female, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries on scene and was transported to Lahey Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
All other involved occupants were transported to Lahey and Winchester Hospitals with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.
The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Andover Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
The scene was cleared at 9:22 p.m.
