Massachusetts sees lowest COVID-19 hospitalizations since mid-December, lowest positive test rate since November
Massachusetts saw a decrease in hospitalizations, cases, active cases, and positive test rate in Sunday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts has seen 3,750 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Saturday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw another decrease to 4.85%. Today’s rate is the lowest it has been since the very end of November. The rate was also 3.3% on November 23rd. The 7-day average confirmed cases of 3,105.7 is the lowest since December 28th.
Massachusetts had seen 4,330 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 475,925 with 69 more reported dead (67 confirmed, 2 probable) for a total of 14,133 (13,844 confirmed, 289 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 12,967,924 after 101,327 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 61.
Estimated active cases slightly increased to 91,507.
Hospitalizations have increased in 89 of the last 132 days and 64 of the last 91, but saw a decrease of 109 to see the total lower to 1,946.The lowest total since December 18th. COVID-19 hospitalizations have been decreasing as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the January 21st report, Fall River has a 143.2 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (153.6 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 133.0 (was 134.3). Westport is also in the red at 95.9 (was 96.4), Swansea is at 104.3 and was 109.3 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 93.7 (was 104.9). Freetown increased to 107.3 from 112.1. Dartmouth is currently at 97.0 after seeing 113.2 last week. Acushnet has the highest rate in Bristol County at 167.5.
Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to January 21st
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 212,366
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 192,258
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 20,108
Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 21st.
