Massachusetts sees 71 new COVID-19 deaths reported today as hospitalizations, cases, positive test rate, increase
Massachusetts saw yet another increase in hospitalizations, cases, deaths, and positive test rate in Wednesday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts has seen 5,450 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Tuesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased again to 6.03%. The rate was 3.3 just over three weeks ago.
Massachusetts had seen 3,720 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 292,316 with 71 more reported dead for a total of 11,513.
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 9,809,105 after 124,172 new molecular tests.
The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 45.
Estimated active cases increased to 74,212.
Hospitalizations have increased in 70 of the last 93 days and 45 of the last 52 and saw an increase by 17 to see the total raise to 1,851.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the December 9th report, Fall River has a 92.37 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (75.3 last week) which is the tenth highest in the state. New Bedford saw a big jump to 78.80 (was 48.3). Westport is also in the red at 45.62 (was 44.8), Swansea is at 78.82 and was 51.5 last week, and Somerset saw a marked increase to 80.16 (was 50.1). Freetown also saw their rate increase as it now sits at 52.89 from 33.2. Dartmouth is currently at 51.21 after seeing 47.7 last week.
Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to December 9th
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 139,367
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 126,652
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 12,715
As of December 16th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 16,519,668 cases of COVID-19 with 302,992 reported deaths.
