Massachusetts sees $31 million Mega Millions winner for second consecutive week
DORCHESTER, MA (February 1, 2023) – For the second consecutive Tuesday, a Mega Millions ticket sold in Massachusetts is the sole winner of a $31 million jackpot. The cash option on the prize is $16.5 million. This ticket for the Tuesday, January 31 drawing was sold at Gibbs located at 107 Winn St. in Woburn.
The winning numbers on the lucky Quic Pic ticket are 7-9-18-29-39, MegaBall 13.
Just one week ago, a ticket sold at Stop & Shop located at 40 George Hannum Street in Belchertown was the sole winner of a $31 million jackpot in the multi-state game’s Tuesday, January 24 drawing.
The $31 million jackpots are the largest prizes won in Massachusetts since a $758.7 million jackpot was hit in the August 23, 2017 Powerball drawing. That ticket, which won the largest prize in Mass Lottery history, was sold at Pride Station & Store in Chicopee.
This is the fifth Mega Millions jackpot won in Massachusetts since 2002, when the game expanded and its name was changed from The Big Game to Mega Millions. Prior to these back-to-back Tuesday wins, the last time a Mega Millions jackpot was hit in Massachusetts was October 16, 2012 when a ticket sold at AM/PM Convenience in Hyannis split a $61 million jackpot with a ticket sold in California.
A $32 million Mega Millions jackpot was won in the August 19, 2011 drawing on a ticket sold at Tedeschi Food Shops in Dorchester.
The largest Mega Millions prize ever won in Massachusetts is a $294 million jackpot won in the July 2, 2004 drawing on a ticket sold at Powers Wine and Liquor in Lowell.
Mega Millions prize winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. The jackpot prize must be claimed at Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters located at 150 Mount Vernon Street in Dorchester.
Gibbs will receive a $50,000 bonus for its sale of the winning ticket.
