Massachusetts sees 100 new COVID-19 deaths, jump in hospitalizations as national cases near 19 million

Massachusetts saw an increase in deaths, hospitalizations, and active cases in Sunday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 2,973 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Saturday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw a slight decrease to 6.28% from 6.32%. The rate was 3.3 on November 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 7,424 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 338,704 with 100 more reported dead for a total of 12,110.

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 10,663,821 after 41,334 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 50 from 44.

Estimated active cases increased to 78,688.

Hospitalizations have increased in 78 of the last 104 days and 53 of the last 63, and saw an increase by 79 to see the total lower to 2,156.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the December 23rd report, Fall River has a 103.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (109.2 last week) which is a decrease and the thirteenth highest in the state. New Bedford saw a decrease to 100.9 (was 111.5) leaving them fifteenth in the state. Westport is also in the red at 68.6 (was 57.6), Swansea is at 70.8 and was 91.8 last week, and Somerset saw a slight increase to 86.0 (was 81.8). Freetown also saw their rate increase as it now sits at 83.7 from 63.1. Dartmouth is currently at 62.9 after seeing 63.7 last week.

• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 170,563
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 139,512
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 31,051

Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report.

As of December 27th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 18,909,910 cases of COVID-19 with 330,901 reported deaths.
