Massachusetts schools see over 2,100 virus cases this week , New Bedford still near the top, Fall River drops again
COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools continue to remain high relative to previous numbers earlier in the year.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 1,804 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from October 14th to October 20th. 350 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 2,154.
A total of 2,238 new COVID-19 cases were reported from October 7th to October 13th with 337 reported for staff and 1,901 for students.
Back in March, student numbers were in the 400s with staff cases under 200.
Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from October 14th to October 20th.
Acushnet: 4 student and 0 staff
Attleboro: 16 students and 3 staff
Dartmouth: 8 students and 3 staff
Fairhaven: 5 students and 2 staff
Fall River: 13 students and 3 staff
New Bedford: 49 students and 3 staff
Plymouth: 18 students and 5 staff
Seekonk: 6 students and 1 staff
Somerset: No new cases
Swansea: 3 students and 0 staff
Taunton: 25 students and 5 staff
Westport: 1 student and 0 staff
Fall River saw another drop with a ranking outside the top 20. After having the most school cases in the state, New Bedford had the 3rd most cases this week and the second most among students.
