Massachusetts schools see 938 cases of COVID-19, New Bedford, Fall River rank 1 and 2 in state
COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools slightly increased this week along with an increase in some area communities.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 541 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from January 14 to January 20. 397 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 938.
The last report, which was for January 7 to January 13, revealed that 930 tested positive. 523 of the positives were students and 407 were staff.
The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.
Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from January 7 to January 13.
Acushnet: No cases
Attleboro: No cases
Dartmouth: No cases
Fairhaven: 4 students and 1 staff
Fall River: 13 students and 12 staff
New Bedford: 19 students and 19 staff
Plymouth: 12 students
Seekonk: 5 students and 1 staff
Somerset: No cases
Swansea: 5 students and 1 staff
Taunton: No cases
Westport: 2 staff
Fall River had the second most overall cases in the state and was second in staff cases and forth in student cases despite the modified hybrid model. New Bedford had the most overall cases, student cases, and staff cases.
