Massachusetts schools see 669 virus cases this week, New Bedford near top in student cases

COVID-19 among Massachusetts schools saw a decrease in student cases for the second straight week after setting a record two weeks in a row.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 604 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from April 29 to May 5th. 65 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 669.

The last report, which was for April 22 to April 28, revealed that 812 tested positive. 718 of the positives were students and 94 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Acushnet: 2 students
Attleboro: 7 students
Dartmouth: no cases
Fairhaven: 3 students
Fall River: 5 students and 2 staff
New Bedford: 15 students and 2 staff
Plymouth: 1 student
Seekonk: 3 students
Somerset: no cases
Swansea: no cases
Taunton: 15 students
Westport: 1 student

New Bedford has the 4th most new student cases and the 3rd most overall new cases in the state after leading the state in cases the previous week.
