A school district in Massachusetts has announced the tragic and sudden death of one of their students.

Superintendent/Receiver Jeffrey Villar announces today that a Southbridge High School student passed away unexpectedly Friday morning.

“Our hearts are broken as we struggle to comprehend the tragic loss of the life of one of our High School seniors. There are never words that can take the grief of loss from us, and we can only pull together to support each other as we endure the heartache.”

Councilors have been made available to assist students and staff during this time and will be available throughout the day and the coming weeks as the school community mourns the passing of the student.

Students and the entire school community are encouraged to talk to counselors, faculty and parents.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our students. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of this student and school community,” Superintendent/Receiver Villar said. “I want to express the importance of speaking with a trusted adult about what our students may be feeling or going through during this difficult time. We have councilors readily available to help and assist anyone who may be struggling with this news. It is important to come together as a school community and help each other heal from this tragedy.”

The name of the student was not released, however, those who stated that they knew him said that he was a great kid.

The school attached information regarding mental health: National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7: dial 988
