Massachusetts saw 81 more COVID-19 deaths reported as positive test rate, hospitalizations, still increasing
Massachusetts saw an increase in deaths, active cases, and positive test rate in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts has seen 6,887 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw another increase to 8.60%. The rate was 3.3 on November 23rd and 6.68% just three days ago.
Massachusetts had seen 6,135 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 359,445 with 81 more reported dead for a total of 12,423.
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 10,944,699 after 95,827 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 60 from 58.
Estimated active cases increased to 80,359.
Hospitalizations have increased in 81 of the last 108 days and 56 of the last 67 and saw an increase by 14 to see the total raise to 2,271.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the December 31st report, Fall River has a 102.4 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (103.6 last week) which is a decrease and the twelfth highest in the state, however, the positivity rate increased to 13.60%. New Bedford saw a decrease to 86.8 (was 100.9). Westport is also in the red at 68.6 (was 68.6), Swansea is at 64.9 and was 70.8 last week, and Somerset saw a decrease to 81.4 (was 86.0). Freetown saw their rate increase as it now sits at 90.0 from 83.7. Dartmouth is currently at 68.5 after seeing 62.9 last week.
Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to December 31st
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 180,376
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 151,494
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 28,882
Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report.

As of December 31st, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 19,663,976 cases of COVID-19 with 341,199 reported deaths.
