Massachusetts records lowest average positive test rate since pandemic began

Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases, hospitalizations and average positive test rate in Friday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 253 more positive cases announced today, an increase from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased slightly from 0.80% to 0.74%. Today’s percentage was the lowest since the pandemic began.

Massachusetts had seen 215 more positive cases announced yesterday which was the lowest since September.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show an increase in total confirmed cases to 660,766 with 4 new deaths (4 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,854 (17,495 confirmed, 359 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 22,863,553 after 39,976 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths decreased from 6.1 to 5.4. At the beginning of February, the average death rate was 70+.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease by 500+ to 7,314. In the last 37 days, active cases have decreased by over 26,900.

Hospitalizations have increased in 94 of the last 201 days, but saw a decrease of 12 to lower the total to 241. Hospitalizations have decreased in 32 of the last 38 days after a period of mainly increases. There were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Today’s total of 241 active hospitalizations was the lowest since September 27th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the May 27th report, Fall River has a 13.4 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (15.8 last week). New Bedford, who has the highest rate in Bristol County, saw a decrease to 15.9 (was 21.9). Westport saw a decrease to 3.4 (was 6.0), Swansea is at 8.1, a decrease, and was 14.3 last week. Somerset saw a decrease as they sit at 8.1 (was 12.7). Freetown stands at 6.3, a decrease from 7.9. Dartmouth is currently at 3.9, a decrease from last week’s 4.4. Acushnet decreased to 7.5 (was 19.1). Berkley is at 10.5 and was 9.4 last week.

1 Massachusetts community, the small town of Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard, is in the red (high risk) which is down from 2 last week. 6 were in the red the week before.
