Massachusetts reaches 8,500 reported COVID-19 deaths in Saturday report, hospitalizations decrease

Massachusetts saw a decrease in hospitalizations in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 320 more positive cases announced in the last 24 hours. The same as the previous 24 hour period. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate has dropped to 1.8% from 1.9%.

Recent positive test rates, in addition to some residents not following protocols, led Governor Baker Friday to indefinitely postpone step 2 of phase three and reduce the size of outdoor gatherings.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total cases to 112,173 with 12 more reported dead for a total of 8,500.

Massachusetts had seen 320 more positive cases in the previous 24 hour period.

16,589 tests were performed, over 2,100 more than yesterday, to increase the overall total to 1,699,442. The amount of individuals tested is now 1,294,206.

Hospitalizations have decreased in 71 of the last 90 days, and saw a decrease of 4 today to see the total drop to 386.

• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 72,919
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 2,852

According to the CDC, as of August 8th, the total amount of COVID-19 cases in the country is 4,920,369 with 160,220 dead.
