Massachusetts State Police assist in rescue of 13-year old girl injured in gorge
“Just after 12:00 p.m. today, Troopers Edward Brunson and Kevin Dupras of the State Police-Northampton Barracks assisted in the rescue of 13-year-old girl who capsized in a float tube in the Chesterfield Gorge Reservation.
The girl, who was tubing with her father and brother, was knocked unconscious and seriously injured. The difficult terrain along with the severity of the girl’s injury made the rescue and extrication extremely difficult.
The rescue was a joint effort of MSP Northampton; Williamsburg Fire Department, led by technical rescue leader Daryl Springman; Chesterfield Police and Fire; Northampton Fire Rescue; Huntington Police; Worthington Police; Goshen Fire; Cummington Fire; and Westhampton Fire.
The girl, her father, her brother, as well as another stranded tuber were removed from the Gorge after almost two and a half hours of efforts by first responders. The father and brother suffered minor injuries. The family was transported to Baystate Hospital by EMTs from Highland Ambulance.”-Massachusetts State Police.
