Massachusetts police officer sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to indecent assault and battery on dispatcher

A Massachusetts police officer has been sentenced after pleading guilty to indecent assault and battery on a dispatcher.

According to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Natick Chief of Police James Hicks, Natick Police Sergeant James Quilty Monday pled guilty to three counts of indecent assault and battery in connection with inappropriately touching a 28-year-old female dispatcher at the Natick Police Department.

Judge Kenneth Salinger found Quilty guilty and sentenced him to three years of probation, ordering him to register as a sex offender and complete all required sex offender treatment, to undergo both mental health and substance abuse evaluations and all follow up, and to stay away from and have no contact with the victim or her family.

 On April 12, 2020, Quilty and the victim went to a gathering after work with other members of the Natick Police Department. At one point during the night Quilty inappropriately touched the victim against her will. He continued to touch her despite her attempts to move his hands away from her and to verbally tell him to stop. As the victim attempted to leave, Quilty also reached into her car and again inappropriately touched her and prevented her from leaving.

Quilty remains on unpaid administrative leave. The Natick Select Board is set to convene soon to fully review and make an expeditious determination with regards to the employment status of Officer Quilty.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Suzanne Wiseman and David Yasinovsky and Victim Witness Advocate Renee Leone.
