Massachusetts Police Departments bulk school security, politicians call to disband NRA after 19 children killed in school shooting

Massachusetts Police Departments have expressed their condolences and beefed-up security after 19 children and 1 teacher were killed in a school shooting in Texas. Some politicians are calling for the NRA to be disbanded.

Seekonk Police stated Tuesday that they will be taking precautions.

“We are saddened to hear of the tragic incident that took place today at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde Texas. As a precaution, we will have an increased presence at all Seekonk Schools for the near future. There is no threat to Seekonk. This is merely a precautionary measure.”

The Massachusetts State Police also issued a statement.

“Colonel Christopher Mason and the Massachusetts State Police join the rest of our nation in mourning the loss of numerous children —18 as of this writing — and a teacher to an act of unimaginable evil today in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts are broken for these innocent souls murdered by a gunman who entered the Robb Elementary School this afternoon, and we pray for them and their families. We stand, also, in solidarity with the emergency personnel who responded to the scene, including the officers and tactical units that ended the threat, and the paramedics and medical personnel who worked valiantly to save lives.”

The Westborough Police Department vowed to do whatever they can to protect school children in their town.

“The parents, families, and friends of those who died are left to mourn the deaths of their children as a result of these horrific, senseless acts. This shooting marks the 27th School shooting this year. Data suggests there have been 118 documented school shootings since 2018 peaking last year at 34. Census data reports Uvalde Texas is a town of 15,860 approximately 1 hour from San Antonio. Please know that the men and women of Westborough Police Department will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of our children.”

The Barnstable SRO Unit will be visiting each school under their jurisdiction on Wednesday.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, families, school, community, and first responders involved in the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas today. The SRO Unit will be at each Barnstable Public School tomorrow to show support and answer any questions or concerns that anyone may have. We are committed to keeping our schools safe and protecting the children of our community.”

Massachusetts Congressman Jake Auchincloss, a military veteran, called for the NRA to be disbanded after the shooting.

“Two things are happening in Texas right now: 18 sets of parents are preparing to bury their children and the NRA is preparing its annual convention. The NRA should cancel its convention, but it won’t – it’ll run the same playbook it has since Columbine. Will any politician who is planning to address the convention speak the plain truth to their craven power? The NRA has blood on its hands. It must be disbanded.”

According to ABC News, at least 19 children and two adults died and nearly 20 others were injured after an 18-year-old student at Uvalde High School opened fire with an AR-15 at Robb Elementary School before being killed by officers.
