A Massachusetts police department is warning the public of yet another scam.

The Barnstable Police Department is alerting to a texting scam where people are posing as “Amazon”.

Do not click on the link.

If you believe that this is possible, go to the Amazon website or use your app on your phone to figure out if you are owed a refund.

If you click on the link and fall victim to this scam, please report it and contact the four major credit bureaus.

Scammers may send text messages claiming to be Amazon. Be mindful if:

  • You receive a text message sent from phone numbers that you don’t recognize or from a number with a country code that differs from your country of residence.
  • You receive text messages for orders or deliveries that you are not expecting.
  • You receive text messages that contain phishing links with URLs that are misspelled, have typos, or have a link that is an IP address.

However, know that Amazon might send you text messages for updates on your orders, payments, deliveries, or account status.
