Authorities have released the name of a Rhode Island man who died recently in a highway incident.

According to State Police, on Wednesday, just after midnight, a Connecticut man was traveling in the left lane on I-95 northbound south of exit 43 in Connecticut when a pedestrian, later identified as 41-year-old Suniel Michael Ross of Woonsocket RI, had ran across 3 lanes of travel from the southbound side and into the center median.

Ross then jumped over the center median and walked into the left lane on the northbound side causing a vehicle traveling in the left lane to stop abruptly. At this time, the Connecticut man had veered into the center lane to avoid colliding into the vehicle in front of it and collided into the pedestrian as he was entering into the center lane.

Ross was subsequently transported from the scene by American Medical Response to Yale New Haven Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Connecticut man did not report any injuries as a result of the collision.

The area of I-95 North where the collision took place was closed for several hours as Troopers investigated.

Ross previously worked with YouthBuild Providence. In December 2020, he retired from the Navy after 17 years. He has previously lived in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and Brooklyn, New York. Ross leaves behind a son and many friends and family.

Troop G is requesting anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Trooper
