Massachusetts police department warning the public as scammers are getting more sophisticated

Scammers keep getting more sophisticated and creative in their scams and this one is no different.
The Duxbury Police are warning the public to be aware of a new scam that is becoming common where people are copying voices and claiming to be loved ones over the phone.
If you receive a call that seems suspicious or random and it is a loved one claiming they need a large sum of money, hang up, and call that individual on a phone number that you know that you can reach them.
DPD have seen an increase of these scams claiming to be a loved one needing bail money or money to pay off a debt that is urgent.
Never give out personal information such as social security number, residential address, or bank account information over the phone to a number that you aren’t sure is secure.
If you do receive a call like this, please report it to the police.
