Massachusetts passes 600,000 confirmed cases as communities in the red nearly triple in two weeks

Massachusetts saw an increase in cases, hospitalizations, and active cases in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 2,455 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased slightly to 2.49%. Tuesday’s 2.55% was the highest since February 10th. Three weeks ago from Sunday, the 1.66% registered was the lowest it had been since October 22nd.

Massachusetts had seen 2,252 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 600,632 with 32 more reported dead (32 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,217 (16,876 confirmed, 341 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 18,928,748 after 107,740 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 26.7 a total increase of 6.3 the last two days.

Estimated active cases saw an increase to 32,868.

Hospitalizations have increased in 103 of the last 187 days and 78 of the last 146 and saw an increase of 10, to raise the total to 700. Tuesday’s 711 was the highest since March 8th. Before the previous 10 days, COVID-19 hospitalizations had been on the decrease as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. A week ago Sunday’s total of 580 was the lowest since November 7th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the April 1st report, Fall River has a 36.1 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (27.0 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 31.4 (was 21.9). Westport saw an increase to 23.9 (was 19.6), Swansea is at 21.9 and was 17.9 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 20.1 (was 13.1). Freetown stands at 30.0 an increase from 24.5. Dartmouth is currently at 20.2 which is the same as last week. Acushnet saw 21.9 (was 21.2).

55 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is up from 32 last week. 20 were in the red the week before. Abington, Adams, Athol, Ayer, Barnstable, Blackstone, Brewster, Brockton, Canton, Carver, Chicopee, Dennis, Dracut, Everett, Fall River, Framingham, Freetown, Granby, Halifax, Hampden, Hanson, Harwich, Lakeville, Lawrence, Lowell, Ludlow, Lynn, Mansfield, Mashpee, Methuen, Milford, Monson, Nantucket, New Bedford, North Attleboro, Orange, Palmer, Peabody, Pembroke, Plainville, Plymouth, Raynham, Sandwich, Saugus, Seekonk, Southboro, Springfield, Sutton, Templeton, Tyngsboro, Ware, West Boyleston, West Bridgewater, Williamstown, and Yarmouth.
