Massachusetts passes 500,000 COVID-19 cases, 7 day average positive test rate drops to 3.53%

Massachusetts saw a decrease in cases, active cases, and positive test rate in Monday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 2,270 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Sunday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw yet another decrease to 3.53%. Today’s rate is the lowest it has been since November 24th.

Massachusetts had seen 2,546 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 500,415 with 30 more reported dead (30 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 14,607 (14,317 confirmed, 290 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 13,721,200 after 88,302 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 50.4.

Estimated active cases saw another decrease to 71,929.

Hospitalizations have increased in 90 of the last 139 days and 65 of the last 98, but saw no change as it stays at 1,676. COVID-19 hospitalizations have continued to decrease as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. December 11th was the last time that COVID-19 hospitalizations were this low.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the January 28th report, Fall River has a 99.6 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (143.2 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 107.3 (was 133.3) and has the highest rate in Bristol County. Westport is also in the red at 63.5 (was 95.9), Swansea is at 86.0 and was 104.3 last week. Somerset also saw a decrease as they sit at 79.1 (was 93.7). Freetown decreased to 78.1 from 107.3. Dartmouth is currently at 68.0 after seeing 97.0 last week. Acushnet has the second highest rate in Bristol County at 105.3 (was 167.5).

Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 28th.

As of February 1st, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 26,034,475 cases of COVID-19 with 439,955 reported deaths.
