Massachusetts passes 14,000 confirmed/probable COVID-19 deaths, continues decrease in test rate, hospitalizations

Massachusetts saw a decrease in hospitalizations, and positive test rate in Saturday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 4,330 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Friday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate saw another decrease to 5.17%. Today’s rate is the lowest it has been since the very end of November. The rate was also 3.3% on November 23rd.

Massachusetts had seen 4,935 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 472,175 with 77 more reported dead (75 confirmed, 2 probable) for a total of 14,064 (13,777 confirmed, 287 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 12,866,597 after 112,391 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of COVID-19 deaths is currently 52.

Estimated active cases slightly increased to 92,193.

Hospitalizations have increased in 89 of the last 131 days and 64 of the last 90, but saw a decrease of 43 to see the total lower to 2,055. COVID-19 hospitalizations have been decreasing as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the January 21st report, Fall River has a 143.2 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (153.6 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 133.0 (was 134.3). Westport is also in the red at 95.9 (was 96.4), Swansea is at 104.3 and was 109.3 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 93.7 (was 104.9). Freetown increased to 107.3 from 112.1. Dartmouth is currently at 97.0 after seeing 113.2 last week. Acushnet has the highest rate in Bristol County at 167.5.

Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on January 21st.

As of January 23rd, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 24,704,417 cases of COVID-19 with 412,592 reported deaths.
