BOSTON – A Massachusetts mother has been sentenced after pleading guilty in the death of one of her children.
27-year-old Jennifer Prudencio of Chelsea was previously charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless endangerment of a child. Police were called to Prudencio’s Spencer Avenue apartment in Chelsea on April 7th, 2024, where they found her three-year-old son, Yael Guardado-Prudencio, unresponsive.
According to NECN, prosecutors stated that Prudencio left the 3-year-old, who was pale and vomiting, in the care of her 7 and 8-year-old children while she went out to a bar in Revere, drank for a few hours, then slept at her boyfriend’s home in Somerville. The 8-year-old texted his mother and sent a video with concern for his 3-year-old brother’s well-being.
The boy’s father created a GoFundMe fundraiser for funeral expenses.
Yael was described as a bright, happy, sweet boy who was lost too soon.
Court TV reports that Prudencio was sentenced above the state guidelines to four to six years in prison, followed by three years of probation.
