Portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut and all of Rhode Island are expected to see heavy rains this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch is in effect from late tonight through Sunday afternoon for Rhode Island, southern Massachusetts, and southern Connecticut.
Showers and a few embedded thunderstorms with localized narrow bands of torrential rainfall are possible very late tonight into Sunday afternoon. Widespread rainfall amounts of 0.50 to 2 inches are expected. However, localized narrow bands of 2-4″ of rain are possible within a 3-hour period. While it remains uncertain if these narrow bands of heavier rain occur…the potential exists for localized flash flooding…especially if it were to occur over a vulnerable urban center.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
