Massachusetts man who had gone missing during blizzard, found dead
A Massachusetts man who had been reported missing, has been found dead.
According to Yarmouth Police, on February 4, 2022, at approximately 1:15 pm the Yarmouth Police Department received a 911 call regarding a possible dead body. The caller stated that she believed there was a body along the fence line between her property and a neighbor.
Yarmouth Police Officers arrived on location and discovered the body of Jean Paul Morancy, age 56, from South Yarmouth and Haiti. Morancy was found on the side of the residence along a fence line in an area not visible from the street. Morancy was found wearing only a tee-shirt and shorts. The residence where Morancy was found was unoccupied and Yarmouth Detectives learned that the homeowners had moved away approximately two weeks ago.
Morancy was reported missing to the Yarmouth Police Department on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 2:50 p.m. The reporting parties advised that Morancy was last seen at their residence around midnight on the 29th. The reporting parties did not know that Morancy was missing until they woke up that morning. Before reporting him missing, the reporting parties stated that they attempted to call Morancy’s cell phone but could not reach him.
Attempts to locate Morancy by the Yarmouth Police Department after he was reported missing yielded negative results. The timeline from when Morancy was last seen to when he was reported missing was over 14 hours. Due to blizzard conditions, the area around Morancy’s residence was covered in snow and no tracks were located indicating a possible route of travel. Attempts to locate Morancy’s phone also yielded negative results. The carrier advised that the phone was not active and could not be located.
The circumstances surrounding Morancy’s death are under investigation. The Massachusetts State Police Detective Bureau is assisting in the investigation.
