Officials announced today that a Massachusetts man has died from injuries sustained in a previous motorcycle crash.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Acton Chief of Police Richard Burrows have confirmed the ongoing investigation into a crash that occurred on October 31, on Great Road in Acton involving a motorcycle and another vehicle. The operator of the motorcycle, 64-year-old Philip Keyes of Acton was transported from the scene and died from injuries sustained in the crash on November 16.

The preliminary investigation suggests that around 12:00 p.m. Keyes was traveling westbound when the crash occurred involving a Subaru Forester traveling eastbound that was being operated by a 82-year-old Chelmsford woman. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders provided aid to Keyes before he was transported by medical flight to Boston Medical Center. The operator and sole occupant of the Subaru Forester remained on scene.

Keyes’ family released a tribute to him on social media

“Philip was a caring father to his two children, a devoted husband to his predeceased wife of 33 years, and an ardent companion to his partner, with whom he found fresh joy over the past four years. A passionate and adventurous man, Philip loved to travel and commune with nature, whether biking, hiking, or simply firing up a grill outdoors.”

“Philip found his life’s calling at the New England Mountain Bike Association, where he served as Executive Director for 26 years. He helped NEMBA grow into one of the largest trail advocacy and mountain bike groups in the nation. In 2008 he was honored to be inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and recognized for his tireless land advocacy efforts.”

Officials stated that it is an active investigation that is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Acton Police and the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Section.

No charges have been filed at this time.
