Massachusetts man wanted for arson, facing several new charges after allegedly fleeing from police at over 100 MPH

A man wanted for a Massachusetts arson is now facing a handful of new charges in Connecticut.

According to police, on Sunday, the Enfield Police Department in Connecticut became aware of a stolen motor vehicle that came into the town. Officers began monitoring the vehicle and eventually attempted to stop it, but it fled and based on State policy, the officers discontinued the pursuit. Even without officers in pursuit of the vehicle, it was observed traveling in excess of 100 MPH and in an extremely reckless manner. Officers were able to deploy a tire deflation device to disable the vehicle at which point the operator fled on foot. K-9 Odin was deployed, tracking the suspect through dense vegetation, swamplands, across a pond, and eventually apprehended the suspect.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Mark Alicea, was charged with: Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, Interfering with a Police Investigation, Engaging Police in a Pursuit, Reckless Driving, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. He was held on a $200,000 cash/surety bond.

It was discovered that Alicea had an extraditable arrest warrant from Worcester County for Arson in relation to a Feb. 18 blaze at 164 Myrtle Ave. in Fitchburg. He was also charged with CGS 54-170 Fugitive from Justice and held on an additional $800,000 cash/surety bond.

Connecticut State Police – Troop C K9 assisted in establishing a perimeter during the incident.
