A Massachusetts man plans on doing some good after hitting big money in the State Lottery.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, George Bouchard is the winner of the $1 million top prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s New Year’s Day Mass Millionaire Holiday Raffle. He claimed his prize at the Mass Lottery’s Dorchester headquarters on Friday, January 5.

Bouchard, who is from Weymouth, purchased his winning ticket at American Legion Morrisette Post 294 in Quincy, where he is the Post Commander. He said he plans to use his winnings to buy a car for himself and for his daughter, noting that he wants a nice, safe car for her and his grandchild. The post receives a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, and Bouchard said that he plans to use that to assist veterans.

Bouchard had already won a $100 voucher upon purchase of his $1 million winning ticket. As part of the Mass Millionaire Holiday Raffle, every 100th ticket sold across the state resulted in a $100 cash voucher. These tickets remained eligible for the New Year’s Day drawing.

The New Year’s Day drawing was the culmination of a series of drawings that began on Friday, October 20. On 11 consecutive Fridays, one $20,000 prize winner was chosen. Winners of the weekly $20,000 prizes remained eligible to win a prize in the New Year’s Day drawing.
