Massachusetts man looking to the future after small win leads to $1 million prize on State Lottery game

A Massachusetts man is liking how the future is looking after hitting big money on a scratch ticket.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Deivson Alves Martins of Worcester is the eleventh $1 million prize winner in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” instant ticket game, the Mass Lottery’s first $50 ticket.

Martins, a carpenter, opted to receive his prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes). He purchased his winning ticket at Family Farms, 443 Park Ave. in Worcester. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.

Martins said that he had won a $500 prize on a ticket he bought at the same store about a month earlier and that he has been playing with house money ever since. He explained that he picked the ticket from dispenser #11 because that is his lucky number. He said that his good fortune has given him peace of mind about his and his family’s future.

With an overall prize payout of 82.0 percent, “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” has the highest payout percentage of any game ever offered by the Mass Lottery. The odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 4.10.
