Massachusetts man guilty of giving daughter Liquid Plumr, overdosing her on pain meds
A Massachusetts man accused of giving his daughter Liquid Plumr and overdosing her on pain medications, will be facing sentencing after a guilty verdict.
A Hampshire Superior Court jury found Christopher Conley guilty of attempted murder, assault and battery on a child by means of a dangerous weapon (opiates) and assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury.
Judge Richard Carey scheduled sentencing for Monday, Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. in Hampshire Superior Court.
According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Conley, 37, of Northampton, was convicted of injecting Liquid Plumr into his then-7-year-old daughter’s cecostomy tube, used to help empty the bowels, after which he overdosed her on pain medication in April 2015. The daughter’s injuries required a seven-hour surgery to remove over six feet of her intestines, and a subsequent surgery to remove one third of her bladder.
The trial lasted 11 days; the jury deliberated for a little over a day.
Child Abuse Unit Chief ADA Linda Pisano and First Assistant District Attorney Steven Gagne, who tried the case, thanked the jury and everyone involved in the case.
Gagne said of Dr. Doruk Ozgediz, the pediatric surgeon who treated the child, that “He’s the real hero in this case.”
“The child got some justice today,” Pisano said.
