A Massachusetts man reportedly committed suicide after throwing himself into oncoming traffic.

According to Dave Procopio of Massachusetts State Police, just after 10:45 a.m. today, Troopers assigned to State Police-Weston responded to reports of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on Route 90 eastbound in the area of Exit 111 in Framingham. Framingham Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, Troopers located a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer operated by a 65-year-old man from Hartford, Conn., that struck a pedestrian causing fatal injuries. The driver pulled over and called 911 after striking the pedestrian.

The investigation indicates that the pedestrian, tentatively identified as an adult male from Boston, was outside of his vehicle, which was stopped in the breakdown lane, as the truck approached. The victim then suddenly ran toward the oncoming truck and was struck.

Troopers assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services responded to assist in the investigation. Members of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene as well. MassDOT assisted with lane closures during the scene investigation and cleanup, all lanes reopened, and the scene cleared shortly after 2:30 p.m.

The investigation at this time suggests the incident was an apparent suicide which led to authorities not releasing his name.
