Massachusetts man charged after causing heavy damage to several homes, pole, vehicle

A Massachusetts man is facing several charges after crashing into a list of objects.

According to police, on Sunday morning at approx. 7:00 a.m., the Clinton Public Safety Dispatch Center received multiple Emergency 911 calls reporting a motor vehicle crash in the area of 980-990 Main St in town. Officers from the Clinton Police Department, along with Fire Fighters from the Clinton Fire Department were immediately dispatched and responded to the scene.

The crash involved one motor vehicle and heavy damage to three houses, a telephone pole and a parked motor vehicle. The crash also caused electrical outages in the homes and a large gas leak.

Due to the crash and gas leak, the road was closed, residents in the area were evacuated from their homes and National Grid Gas and Electric were called and responded to the scene.

The 22-year-old male operator of the vehicle, who was assaultive and uncooperative with officers, was arrested and taken into custody at the scene. The operator will be charged with a number of violations, including speeding, unlicensed operation, operating under the influence, multiple counts of destruction of property, resisting arrest, and A&B on a police officer. As the investigation continues additional charges may be included.

The name of the suspect was not released.

Multiple Departments and Agencies were called in and worked together to maintain safety, secure the scene and investigate the incident. In addition to the Clinton Public Safety Dispatch, CPD and CFD, also National Grid Gas and Electric, Lancaster Police Department, Clinton Building Inspector, Clinton Animal Control, and the Clinton DPW all responded to assist in the efforts at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.
