Massachusetts man arrested for OUI nearly five times over the legal limit during morning commute

On Wednesday, August 25, just after 7:30 a.m. Trooper Paul Dabene, assigned to the State Police-Weston Barracks, was called to assist in a motor vehicle stop of an erratic Chevy Cruze sedan on Route 90 Eastbound in Framingham. Trooper Dabene made contact with the operator of the erratic vehicle, Ryan Carey, 41, of Douglas. Immediately upon engaging CAREY in conversation, Trooper Dabene was able to note several signs of intoxication including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle.

Trooper Dabene was then assisted by Trooper Daniel Myers. Together, the Troopers removed CAREY from the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests. While doing so, Carey was not able to stand on his own without leaning against his car and could not perform any of the four sobriety tests attempted.

Trooper Dabene placed CAREY under arrest for operating under the influence of liquor and transported CAREY to the Weston Barracks for booking. During the ride to the barracks, Carey fell asleep in the rear of Trooper Dabene’s cruiser. Upon arrival to the Weston barracks CAREY was booked, fingerprinted photographed, and offered a breath test.

Carey was determined to have a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.36%. Nearly five times the legal limit of 0.08%.

Carey’s license to operator a motor vehicle was suspended, and he was scheduled to appear in Framingham District Court on the following charges:

Operating Under The Influence Of Intoxicating Liquor; and
Negligent Operation Of A Motor Vehicle.
