Massachusetts gas prices drop for another week, lower than a year ago, on pace with national average
Westwood, MA, January 16, 2023 — Gas prices continued a modest decline once again last week in Massachusetts and are no longer higher than the national average.
According to AAA, the average gas price in Massachusetts is down 2 cents from last week ($3.32), averaging $3.30 per gallon. Today’s price is 17 cents lower than a month ago ($3.47), and 6 cents lower than January 16, 2022 ($3.36). Massachusetts’ average gas price is the same as the national average.
“Gas prices locally are in a bit of a winter lull, and supplies of oil and gasoline are sufficient to meet demand,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Vice President of Public and Government Affairs.
AAA Northeast’s January 16 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be 2 cents higher than last week ($2.28), averaging $3.30 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 13 cents higher than a month ago ($3.17) and is the same price as this day last year.
