Massachusetts COVID-19 cases pass 300,000, over 80,000 of which are active

Massachusetts saw yet another increase in hospitalizations, and active cases in Friday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 5,632 more positive cases announced today. A decrease from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased to 6.13%. The rate was 3.3 just over three weeks ago.

Massachusetts had seen 4,985 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 302,933 with 53 more reported dead for a total of 11,610.

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 10,007,766 after 106,034 new molecular tests.

The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 46.

Estimated active cases increased to 80,989.

Hospitalizations have increased in 72 of the last 95 days and 47 of the last 54 and saw an increase by 3 to see the total raise to 1,874.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the December 16th report, Fall River has a 109.2 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (92.37 last week) which is another increase and the fifteenth highest in the state. New Bedford saw a big jump to 111.5 (was 78.80) leaving them thirteenth in the state. Westport is also in the red at 57.6 (was 45.62), Swansea is at 91.8 and was 78.82 last week, and Somerset saw a slight increase to 81.8 (was 80.16). Freetown also saw their rate increase as it now sits at 63.1 from 52.89. Dartmouth is currently at 63.7 after seeing 51.21 last week.

• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 151,349
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 132,322
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 19,027

As of December 18th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 16,987,911 cases of COVID-19 with 309,880 reported deaths.
