Massachusetts COVID-19 active cases drop below 50,000, nearly 90 new deaths reported



Massachusetts saw a decrease in active cases, hospitalizations, and positive test rate in Friday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts saw 2,228 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Thursday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate has declined to 2.55%, the lowest it has been since November 5th.

Massachusetts had seen 2,213 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 525,486 with 89 more reported dead (87 confirmed, 2 probable) for a total of 15,358 (15,051 confirmed, 307 probable).

The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 14,737,744 after 106,107 new molecular tests.

The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 47.4.

Estimated active cases saw a decrease to 48,280.

Hospitalizations have increased in 92 of the last 149 days and 67 of the last 108 and saw another decrease of 90 to lower the total to 1,223. COVID-19 hospitalizations have decreased as of late as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. November 30th was the last time that COVID-19 hospitalizations were this low.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report

According to the February 11th report, Fall River has a 67.2 Average Daily Incident Rate per 100,000 (Last 14 days) (83.6 last week). New Bedford saw a decrease to 62.4 (was 83.4). Westport is also in the red at 46.5 (was 50.3), Swansea is at 52.8 and was 75.2 last week. Somerset also saw a decrease as they sit at 50.9 (was 72.9). Freetown decreased to 49.7 from 52.9. Dartmouth is currently at 52.7 after seeing 55.6 last week. Acushnet has the highest rate in Bristol County at 73.1 (was 82.7).

• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 228,426
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 17,209

Massachusetts Officials have now also issued a “vaccine doses administered and shipped” report updated on February 11th.

As of February 12th, according to the CDC, the United States has seen 27,229,862 cases of COVID-19 with 473,699 reported deaths.
