Massachusetts correction officer seriously injured, knocked unconscious, after attack by inmate
A correction officer in Massachusetts was seriously injured after an attack by an inmate.
According to Deputy Director of Communications at Massachusetts Department of Correction Jason Dobson, yesterday at approximately 2:15 p.m., a correction officer was assaulted by an inmate with a metal object in the gymnasium at MCI-Shirley.
During the attack, correctional staff in the direct area immediately took action to restrain the inmate and radio for assistance to secure the area. The officer sustained serious injuries which rendered him unconscious and required emergency transport via ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The names of the inmate or the officer were not released.
The matter remains under investigation and the inmate has been separated from the general population.
Dobson stated that as in any situation like this, the inmate will complete an internal discipline process. Separately, the District Attorney is being notified of the assault.

“in any situation like this, the inmate will complete an internal discipline process.” Which I hope includes bashing his head against the wall several times.
